Christmas Island

Officially part of Australia, although closer to Java, it is relatively easy to visit (albeit rather expensive) as part of an Australian trip. Total number of species is few, but does include two seabirds, one of which, Abbot's Booby, cannot be seen elsewhere. There is also an endemic Hawk-owl, Pigeon, White-eye and several endemic subspecies which are good candidates for splits. The island is famous for its crabs but unless you want to witness the migration that time is best avoided, as all can be seen easily in the forests. The total bird list for the island is swelled by large numbers of vagrants, but this is the realm of the top Australian listers.
