CURLEW SANDPIPER Calidris ferruginea

A passage migrant in UK, but in far smaller numbers than when I began birding. Despite the scientific name birds are rarely seen in full breeding plumage, "partial" birds occur on migration throughout Europe, Asia and Australia. The common name is obviously apt, although there is variation, and some Dunlin bills can appear remarkably similar.
