SLAVONIAN or HORNED GREBE Podiceps auritus

Almost circumpolar in northern temperate zones except for a "gap" in Eastern Canada, breeding sporadically in Scotland. THe name Slavonian is mainly used in Western Europe, although it is in fact erroneous (it should be Sclavonian, they don't breed in Slavonia). Migration is soth and east to coastal regions and occasional lakes nearby. Birds here are a pair in Scotland, a bird of the US race comutusand a wintering bird in Norfolk.
