BLACK-NECKED or EARED GREBE Podiceps nigricollis

Breeding occasionally in England, this grebe has an odd disjunct distribution. Migratory populations breed in western USA, and mid-Europe as far as Central Asia with pockets in Mongolia, China and western Europe. Resident pockets occur in Mexico, South Africa and Namibia, the Rift Valley and Central Asia south of Kazakhstan. Migrants again are largely coastal, to the south or east of the main colonies.
