One of three species of Marsh Terns, this is the largest and most Sterna-like. All are freshwater species
and are migratory. Whiskered is found throughout much of the Old World including parts of Europe, Africa
and Australia.
It is a frequent visitor to Britain, both in breeding and juvenile
plumages, but has never bred.
