BLACK FRONTED TERN Chlidonias albostriatus

Only recently classified in the Chlidonias genus, this bird is very different to other marsh terns, being a New Zealand endemic. As with so many species since New Zealand's "discovery" by Maoris, it is now classified as endangered. It tends to be tied to river systems.
