MAGELLANIC PLOVER Pluvianellus socialis

Once placed in its own family, this enigmatic wader is confined to the southernmost tip of Patagonia, and Tierra del Fuego. It is apparently the only wader to regurgitate food to its young. Often difficult to find, we came across a flock of 37 after many hours searching, twenty minutes before our charter flight was due to return us to the mainland! At the time this was the largest flock ever recorded, and probably the first juveniles to be photographed.
