UPLAND SANDPIPER Bartramia longicauda

A breeder in northern prairie grasslands of the USA and Canada, and wintering in the South American pampas, it was once fairly easy to see in Britain. Records have fallen off in recent years, and what was an almost annual vagrant at one time is now only occasional. Unsurprisingly, most records are on the Scilly Isles, where these were taken, and migrants can be exceptionally tame, many people will have seen photos of a bird on Scilly being hand-fed.
