BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER Calidris subruficollis

A fairly common vagrant to the UK, this species is usually only seen on migration in the USA, being a high Arctic breeder and migrating to (mainly) Argentina. As numbers are declining it is becoming less frequent in both countries. Another bird of fairly unique appearence that was formerly placed in its own genus, the only confusion species is female/juvenile Ruff.
