FLUTTERING SHEARWATER Puffinus gavia

A New Zealand endemic breeding on about ninety islands off North Island, NZ, as far south as Marlborough Sounds. Visits colonies all year, but sometimes disperses as far as South East and East Australia. Large rafts are often found in inshore waters. Once lumped with the next species, being very similar in appearence and closely related, but are generally only found together around the Cook Strait.
