HUTTON'S SHEARWATER Puffinus gavia

Completely different breeding areas is the main thing separating these two NZ endemics. Hutton's breeds in the Seaward Kaikoura Range, and as an endangered taxon an artificial colony has been established on the Kaikoura Peninsular, all sites in the same area of South Island. Dispersal is somewhat different to Fluttering, most birds moving to the Australian coast area, but further North and West. Sadly I have only one photo, taken on slide film many years ago.
