Formerly called Great Black-headed Gull, this Central Asian breeder winters to the south & west of its
natal area, most commonly seen in India & Israel, where it attains its stunning breeding plumage in many cases before departing for its
breeding grounds. A number of recent records from Central & Eastern Europe give
hope that one day a second bird will join the one on category 'B' of the British List.
