HEUGLIN'S GULL Larus (fuscus) heuglini

Another taxonomic conundrum, thought to be a good species by several authorities.Breeding in Northern Russia and barely overlapping with other races of Lesser-black-backed, it winters on Red Sea coasts where it winters alongside barabensis. As the two are similar it often causes identification problems, but heuglini is usually darker on the mantle.
