Thought by some to be a different species, fuscus breeds to the east of the other European races of Lesser Black-backed Gull,
and is a longer distance migrant. Small morphological differences, some due to its longer migration, enable it to be distinguished in the field,
but more work needs to be done on intergradation between subspecies. Large numbers winter in Uganda, where these shots were taken.
