NANKEEN (RUFOUS) NIGHT-HERON Nycticorax caledonicus

Both Nycticorax species are similar in size and jizz, this one occurs in Australia, New Guinea and nearby areas of the Pacific, and probably evolved from the same ancestor as Black-crowned. Does not seem to occur in large colonies, and tends to be more secretive although not uncommon.
