AFRICAN OPENBILL STORK Anastomus lamelligerus

One of two Openbill Storks, the other being Asian. The bill is adapted to feed on their primary diet of molluscs. Strangely the Asian species has a breeding plumage reminiscent of White Stork, whereas this species retains dark plumage all year. It is found south of the Sahara, and Madagascar (a different race).
