AFRICAN OPENBILL Anastomus lamelligerus

One of two Openbill Storks, the other being Asian. The bill is adapted to feed on their primary diet of molluscs. Strangely the Asian species has a breeding plumage reminiscent of White Stork, whereas this species retains dark plumage all year. It is found south of the Sahara, and Madagascar.
