Found in the Atlantic and Pacific, from Galapagos to Cabo Verde, and ranging from Baja California and Florida south to Brazil and Ecuador,
mainly on offshore islands. Often difficult to separate from Great Frigatebird where they are sympatric, especially adult males. Two or possibly three races are described, and birds on
Galapagos and Cabo Verde have been suggested as splits, but there is currently little evidence.
