GREY (RED) PHALAROPE Phalaropus fulicarius

Familiar to British birders, again the breeding range spans the Northern hemisphere in Arctic and Subarctic regions, although more to the North. Birds winter at sea off South America and Africa, although varying numbers occur at sites near the coast in Britain each year on migration, although rarely in spring. Unfortunately we rarely see the superb breeding plumage which causes it to be called Red Phalarope in many countries, one day I'll travel to where they breed.
