FAR-EASTERN CURLEW Numenius madagascariensis

The equivalent of the similar Eurasian Curlew found where its name would suggest, wintering in Australia. The plumage is darker, with no white rump, as in eastern races of Eurasian Curlew, but the very long bill helps with identification. Its numbers are being affected by the problems which beset the Far Eastern Flyway.
