Found over many parts of Australasia and breeding in eastern Indonesia, Timor-Leste, New Guinea and Australia, taxonomic changes
following the three-way split of Internmediate Egret have followed geographical regions. This taxon is also found in Indonesia as a non-breeder, but
records in Tasmania and much of West Australia are few and it is rarely recorded in New Zealand.
