INTERMEDIATE EGRET Ardea intermedia

Found over many parts of Africa, Asia and Australasia, it is exactly as its name indicates, intermediate in size between Little and Great, although closer to the latter. Taxonomic changes have rendered this rather defunct, as Little isn't closely related. There are suggestions that two or even three species are involved, but morphological differences are slight, HBW splits all three on geographical lines. Birds here are Asian (nominate), Australian (plumifera) and African (brachyrhyncha).
