Found over many parts of Asia it is exactly as its name indicates,
intermediate in size between Little and Great, although closer to the latter. Taxonomic changes
have rendered this name rather defunct, as Little isn't closely related. There have long been suggestions that two or even three species are
involved, having recently photographed this taxa in Sri Lanka, I have split them but
morphological differences are slight. The original source was HBW, but IOC seems to be following suit, and all three are currently species on Avilist,
where for some odd reason it has now been renamed Medium Egret.
