BROAD-BILLED PRION Pachyptila vittata

Another group of taxonomic uncertanties, made all the more difficult by problems of identification at sea. Most are abundant, usually being encountered in large flocks, but exact distributions are unknown, since many breed on islands which are rarely studied. As far as is known this species breeds on Gough and Inaccessible in the south Atlantic, and Snares and the Chatham group in New Zealand's subantarctic region. However records exist from Chile and Peru, were they misidentifications or are there unknown breeding stations around Cape Horn?
