WHITE-BREASTED CORMORANT Phalacrocorax lucidus

Formerly a subspecies of Great Cormorant, this taxon has long been the subject of controversy as to whether it is a good species. It is restricted to parts of sub-Saharan Africa from north-east to nouth-west and is primarily an inland species. One issue is that the subspecies maroccanus of Great Cormorant also shows a white breast, and that is currently kept within carbo.
