AUSTRALASIAN LITTLE GREBE Tachybaptus novaehollandiae

Very similar to Little Grebe, although there is no overlap the recently-split Tricoloured Grebe could be an issue on certain islands, however the Australian Mainland is where most birders see this species, as it commonly breeds, especially in the East. The yellow eye is the main distinguishing feature, they seem to form flocks more readily, this could either be the result of changeable conditions or the fact that populations are larger overall.
