WHITE-TAILED PLOVER Vanellus leucurus

Still very difficult to see in its breeding areas in Iraq, Iran and parts of Central Asia, this bird is usually near shallow water, and migratory populations winter in N.India, the Middle East and N.E.Africa. The breeding range is slowly expanding west to Turkey, Greece etc.,these were taken in Armenia. For forty years it was a "blocker" in the UK, but has now occured on several occasions, often showing up at different sites over quite a long period. The main page bird is the latest visitor, taken at Frampton, it also spent time at Blacktoft and in Norfolk briefly.
