SOUTHERN LAPWING Vanellus chilensis

Despite the scientific name a widespread and common bird in much of South America, where there is little subspecific variation, some having more white on the face and a darker, more cinnamon head and neck. They may indulge in co-operative breeding, being the only wader reported to have two individuals of the same sex caring for one clutch of eggs.
