RED-LEGGED KITTIWAKE Rissa brevirostris

It is strange that one species of Kittiwake is almost circumpolar and winters south almost to the tropics, whereas this one is more or less sedentary and breeds only on islands in the Bering Sea. Its bright red legs render it unmistakeable, it is also darker-mantled than its close relative. Interestingly the first-winter has no "M" mark across the upperwings.
