GREY GULL Leucophaeus modestus

A distinctive bird with an amazing breeding strategy. It breeds colonially in the Atacama Desert, thereby avoiding predators, but has to fly often considerable distances to adjacent coasts of Peru & Chile to forage for food. It commonly follows trawlers, but also feeds in a Sandpiper-like fashion on shrimps and sand fleas.
