ELEGANT TERN Thalasseus elegans

Very similar to Lesser Crested Tern but with a longer, decurved bill, this species has a very restricted breeding range from Southern California to Mexico, and winters south to Peru and Chile. There is continued controversy regarding several European records, particularly since Mediterranean Lesser Crested Terns have longer, more drooping bills than other races, however some records have been proved genuine.
