SNOWY EGRET Egretta thula

The Nearctic equivalent of Little Egret, common in many parts of southern USA, & South America. Differences are slight, again involving bare parts colours, which may explain the paucity of Western Palearctic records, although the centre photo is Britain's first, taken at Balvicar. This bird remains the only confirmed record, several subsequent sightings at varying locations from December 2001 to May 2002 are all thought to refer to the same bird.
