Found over many parts of Australasia, it is exactly as its previous name indicates,
intermediate in size between Little and Great, although closer to the latter. Taxonomic changes
have rendered this rather defunct, as Little isn't closely related. This taxon is found in Indonesia as a non-breeder, but
records in Tasmania are few and it is rarely recorded in New Zealand.
