Formerly known as Eastern Reef-heron (or Egret), the current
name is a bit of a misnomer, since it occurs from the Indian Ocean to Australia. A second race occurs on
New Caledonia and the Loyalty Islands, whether this is a valid taxon is unknown. The bird is always found
coastally, unlike Dimorphic.
