NORTHERN BALD IBIS Geronticus eremita

Also known as Waldrapp, a critically endangered species which is nevertheless fairly easy to see in Morocco. Until recently this was the only known truly wild colony but birds have been discovered in Syria, these wintering in Ethiopia. Chester Zoo has a captive breeding program, and birds are being released in southern Spain.
