BLACK HERON (EGRET) Egretta ardesiaca

An African species, famed for its "umbrella" feeding action, as shown here. It ranges sporadically south of the Sahara, including Madagascar, and is nomadic in many regions. Although an "Egretta" its official name is heron, in practise the two are used interchangeably.
