AMERICAN BITTERN Botaurus lentiginosus

Forming a superspecies with Eurasian and Australasian, this Bittern was actually first described in England, the type specimen is from Devon, indicating that transatlantic vagrancy was much commoner than the extreme rarity of today. However, it's not an easy bird to see in the USA, although I have seen one all my photos were taken in the UK. The left bird is the latest record, at Carlton Marshes, in Suffolk in 2018.
