RED-CRESTED POCHARD Netta rufina

Familiar to UK birders as there are increasing records of feral breeding in the UK. Whether any are of wild origin is debatable, as they seem wary in many places, whereas UK birds are not. The core range is Central Asia, from Mongolia and northwest China to the Black Sea, with scattered populations in Europe and North-west Africa. They are common in Turkey and Armenia, where the flight shots were taken, the others are from Kazakhstan.
