Another abundant species with a similar distribution, but
generally further north. Pairs or very loose colonies are normal, and not being dependent on trees it is not
limited by the extent of the taiga belt. It also breeds in south coastal Greenland, which Goosander does not,
most birds are migratory, wintering coastally. In the UK breeding occurs in Scotland and Ireland but it is familiar right
round the coastlines of the whole country, especially in winter.
