Classified as vulnerable, this colourful Branta
breeds on the Siberian tundra, and winters from Hungary to Georgia, but with many records outside this area.
A not infrequent visitor to Britain, although scarce recently until three birds turned up in 2021-2.
Commonly kept in wildfowl collections (centre) and seemingly frequently escape as there are a number of feral
birds in East Anglia and Lincolnshire. A family party of seven visited Frampton in summer 2022, but the other
shots are of birds presumed to be wild as they usually accompany Brent Geese, in Norfolk (2022) and Essex (1996).
