The other bird in the genus is a subtropical breeder, and much rarer, Tristan da Cunha is the only breeding area where they overlap, and taxonomy is unclear. Much has been said about Black-bellied birds with all-white bellies, and White-bellied with dark markings on the belly; whilst this is the case in some areas (e.g. Tristan), most birds seen at sea are quite clearly one or the other.
