WEDGE-TAILED SHEARWATER Pale Phase Ardenna pacifica

Wedgies occur in two morphs, pale and dark. Intergrades do occur but are rare. Whilst there is no suggestion of a split, dark birds predominate in the Indian Ocean and southern Pacific, whereas pale phase are the commoner in the North Pacific. These birds were taken north of the equator sailing towards Japan.
