SOFT-PLUMAGED PETREL Pterodroma mollis

Common in the southern oceans from the Antipodes west to the coast of Argentina. It breeds on many islands, including a recent discovery off Tasmania, and on Gough, Crozet, Tristan etc. As everyone knows, it formerly included Fea's-type petrels from the north Atlantic, but the (usually) complete breastband distinguishes it. There are a few records of vagrancy to the north, including Israel and Norway, perhaps speciation was a relatively recent event.
