Also known as Cape Petrel this is probably the most familiar petrel to birders in the southern oceans, breeding on most subantarctic islands and several Antarctic locations. Actively pursuing ships to scavenge it is noisy and quarrelsome; New Zealand birds are disinctively darker and have been assigned to a different race. |
