Fairly common in the Humboldt Current, an endemic as the name suggests, breeding on Alejandro
Selkirk Island in the JF group. Larger than the sympatric Stejneger's Petrel and once lumped with White-necked, its closest relative may be Barau's
Petrel, although they are "an ocean apart". This species is usually within the Humboldt Current, but some birds disperse as far as Hawaii, where
immatures may remain until ready to breed.
