GREAT SHEARWATER Ardenna gravis

A large attractive shearwater of the Atlantic, breeding mainly on Tristan da Cunha (including Gough) with a few on the Falklands. Very common, dispersal takes them over most of the Atlantic in a clockwise movement as far north as Baffin Island, returning to their colonies from late August. This brings them in to UK waters in August-October, where they may often be seen on pelagic trips or land-based seawatches mainly in the south-west. These photos, however were taken on or near Nightingale Island (Tristan group).
