Long thought of as endemic to Reunion Island, and still the only place in the
world where this species can reliably be seen, there is some evidence that a few may breed on Mauritius. Indeed I saw one briefly
cross the lagoon outside our hotel there, but our seaside hotel on Reunion produced regular evening gatherings of up to fifty birds
offshore. They then make their way inland to innacessible colonies in the mountains, as do many petrels. One or two passed
directly over the poolside cocktail bar!
