AUDUBON'S SHEARWATER Puffinus l'herminieri

"Audubon's" used to encompass several species, which have been gradually split off over the years. It is now a declining species of the Carribean, although still common, breeding on 137 islands, particularly The Bahamas and West Indies. A second race, loyemilleri breeds off Panama, Venezuala and NE Brazil, but its validity is in doubt, although it is smaller. As well as The Carribean, birds disperse north off the coast of USA and are usually present in summer off North Carolina, where these were taken.
