The Eudyptes penguins form the largest genus, and also are the most contentious taxonomically. Current thinking has split Tristan (also known as Northern Rockhopper), from this, Rockhopper, the smallest of the genus. Breeding on most Subantarctic islands, those on Tristan, Gough and some Indian Ocean islands have been assigned to the new species.
