A last genus of Grebes consists of the closely related Western and Clark's Grebes, both large grebes found in western North America
and Mexico. Both quite similar and will form mixed flocks offshore in winter, at one time they were considered one species, or rather synonyms of each other. Both have two suspecies, birds
from Mexico tend to be paler and smaller, although Western is overall darker, and hybridisation rare.
