Tropicbirds, as the name suggests, are mainly found in the tropics, nesting on islands such as Galapagos,
Canaries, Ascension and St. Helena, but also cliff colonies, particularly in the Pacific. Red-billed, whilst probably the least numerous, is the most widespread,
although of the four races one is a potential split (next taxon). They are highly pelagic, and often just appear above a ship miles from land, similarly they
are fequently recorded as vagrants in temperate regions (including several in the UK).
