Split from Masked Booby quite recently, this species occurs on islands from Mexico to northern Peru, usually well offshore
such as Galapagos and Isla de la Plata. Masked Booby is found all around this area, and there is no reason to suppose the two do not occur together at sea, especially as
identification, particularly of juveniles, is problematic. In fact they breed sympatrically at Clipperton Island, but there are no reports of hybridisation.
